Subaru Wheel Nut Change For Rust

An anti-rust treatment coating is now applied during the manufacturing process to prevent rust from developing.

This bulletin announces a change made to the wheel lug nuts on the models listed above. The change is in response to a number of reports describing rust inside of the nut as shown. An anti-rust treatment coating is now applied during the manufacturing process to prevent rust from developing.

The new wheel lug nuts will be incorporated into the production of Japan-built models during November of 2020. The new wheel nut part number is 28171AJ000. Any orders placed for the old part number 28171AG000 will be automatically switched to the new 28171AJ000 part number.

As the metal tooth passed by the permanent magnet wrapped in copper wire, the magnetic field was altered and measured by a computer. This is not a sci-fi novel, but how a passive wheel speed sensor works. 

A passive wheel speed sensor is often called a “variable reluctance sensor” by some engineers. The sensor is mounted at a specific gap from a toothed reluctor ring. As the teeth pass by the wheel speed sensor, it changes the magnetic field and produces alternating current or AC voltage. The AC voltage can be seen by a scope as a sine wave.
