The state of Wisconsin is considering a ban on all lead wheel weights.
Assembly Bill 483, introduced on Jan. 24, would ban the sale and installation of all lead wheel weights. The bill is currently sitting in the state assembly’s transportation committee for consideration.
If passed, the ban would roll out over an 18-month period.
"As more states move towards non-lead legislation, it is important for businesses to research the alternatives now and be ready to make a decision," said Gregory Parker, marketing manager for wheel weight maker Perfect Equipment Inc. "The proposed Wisconsin bill only provides a six-month window to stop importing lead inventories, which isn’t very much time. Businesses should consider changing their wheel weight inventories now so that they won’t feel rushed later."
