JDM Engineering, a leading tuner in the late-model Ford segment, has stepped up to sponsor a new NMRA class called "Super Stang" that will run at four select events in 2008 – Detroit, MI (June 13-15), Atco, NJ (August 8-10), Columbus, OH (August 29-31) and Bowling Green, KY (October 2-5). JDM Super Stang will be a declared index-style eliminator open to ’05 and later Mustangs (S197). Super Stang will be a part of the NMRA’s all-cash contingency program and will have a points chase with the world champion crowned at NMRA’s awards ceremony at the PRI show in December ’08.

"We are excited to work with JDM Engineering to introduce a new class designed to attract late-model Ford Mustang owners to the track," said Charlie Harmon, president of the NMRA. "Super Stang will be the NMRA’s first index-style class that provides an easy-to-follow format for new and experienced Ford drag racers. The ’05 Mustang reignited the muscle car segment and the NMRA will be the series that showcases the best in late-model Ford performance."

Brake Problems

Reducing brake drag on late-model vehicles is not accomplished by a single component; it takes a system.

Drivers and technicians rarely make the connection between fuel economy and brakes. Moving the pads back from the rotor by only 1mm can increase fuel economy by as much as three to five percent. For engineers, it is a huge gain that does not involve exotic materials or adding expensive components.
