If you want to build a more profitable auto repair business, here are six proven tips for your waiting room that can help you do just that:

#1. Get rid of those clocks. If the customer needs to know what time it is they can always ask you. What you don’t need, is them timing you.

#2. Get rid of those worthless newspapers.  They’re filled with bad news and information on your competitors. Current event magazines are just as bad. What you should have are magazines that address fitness, sports, family life and your community. You’ll also need books for the kids, and information that will educate your customers on you and the services you offer.  If you decide to use letters or thank you cards from happy customers, just make sure they are less than a year old.

#3. Make sure you have large displays that tell your customers about what charge cards you accept, 90 day same as cash programs and any financing services you may offer.

#4. Post your Mission Statement. This will allow your customers to quickly understand what you and your company are all about.

#5. Take head shots of all your employees and their photos on plaques that list both their credentials and short bios. People do business with people, not businesses, so the more you can bring that personal touch to your customers, the more successful you will be.

#6. Have contained toys available for the kids, fresh coffee, soft drinks and water, and a clean, comfortable environment.
