Record Automotive Growth in 2013 Leads to Higher Demand for Mobile Franchises

Thriving automotive market provides new opportunities and increased need for Matco Tools franchises.

The automotive market has posted the industry’s best April sales since 2007. Although the pace slowed from the first three months of this year, analysts like Alec Gutierrez, a senior market analyst with Kelley Blue Book, are projecting the industry to sell more than 15 million cars and trucks this year. With the growth in the automotive market, come new opportunities for companies like mobile tool distributors including Matco Tools. Ranked the number one mobile tool franchise by Entrepreneur Magazine in 2012, Matco can help franchisees start their own business to satisfy current auto market needs.

According to the National Automobile Dealers Association’s chief economist, Paul Taylor, the projected number of vehicles purchased or leased will increase by 1 million from 2012, and the average age for each vehicle on the road has increased from 9.3 years to 11.1 years. With more consumers buying cars and driving them longer, there has been an increased demand for automotive repair and maintenance and for the technicians and tools that they use.

“When the automotive repair market grows, so do our distributors’ businesses. More complex automotive technology means an increased need for specialized tools while older vehicles need more frequent repairs,” said Ernie Lauber, senior vice president of sales for Matco Tools. “Those industry trends represent an opportunity for Matco’s franchises. Our distributors provide professional quality tools to automotive repair business across the country. They are an important resource for technicians.”

The Bureau of Labor Statistics found that automotive technician jobs are projected to increase by 17% from 2010 to 2020, adding an estimated 124,800 new jobs to the market. The additional jobs have created an increased demand for mobile tool franchises, which bring the industry’s must-have tools and equipment directly to garages and shops.

Since 1979, Matco Tools franchises have provided top products directly to professional mechanics and enthusiasts through its network of distributors. Each distributor participates in a rigorous training program with classroom and hands-on training in the field. Franchisees also receive at least 325 potential customers along with a pre-qualified list of calls, with comprehensive training and support to service these customers. Matco continues to provide extensive long-term support to each of its distributors in order to help ensure a successful business.

“I have seen the changes and growth in the automotive industry firsthand, and am proud to own a mobile franchise that can provide the solutions technicians are looking for, when and where they need them,” said Nate McClure, a Matco Tools franchise owner. “From an in-house financing program to the incredible customer support team with extensive industry knowledge, Matco gave me everything I needed to run a successful business and truly understand the automotive market.”
