Boston is one of only two markets in the country where Firestone Complete Auto Care is offering motorists a new, environmentally friendly oil change service at all the company’s store locations in the Boston area.

The service uses a recycled, twice-refined, high-quality motor oil product called EcoPower. The re-refined motor oil, which meets or exceeds the highest North American standards for motor oil performance in gasoline engines, requires up to 85 percent less energy to produce than regular motor oil. Also, since EcoPower is made from existing used oil stocks, it helps conserve the earth’s limited natural resources and supports environmental sustainability. Firestone closes the loop on oil recycling by ensuring that oil removed from vehicles during oil changes is sent to a re-refiner so it can be reused, the company said.

“This new option in oil changes will help customers in one of the nation’s greenest cities lead even cleaner, greener and more environmentally conscious lifestyles,” said Larry Magee, chairman, CEO and president of BFS Retail & Commercial Operations. “BFRC and Firestone Complete Auto Care recognize that today’s customers want to protect the environment in every way possible. That’s why we decided to offer a service that reflects that concern.”

The environmentally friendly oil change service is also available at all Firestone Complete Auto Care locations in the greater Portland, OR, area.

Toe Angles and Ride Height

Zero toe angle is present when both tires are parallel to the center thrustline.

How can a mysterious case of tire wear occur in a perfectly aligned vehicle? It happens and the answers aren’t always simple. To better explain, let’s go back a few decades when I aligned a 1983 Mitsubishi RWD pickup, only to have it return a month later with a tire scuffing complaint. Although the outside edge of the right front tire showed evidence of toe-related wear, the current toe angle was 0.100 inches, which is within the Mitsubishi’s +0.080” to +0.350“ specification.
