VIDEO: Selecting The Right ACDelco Spark Plug

ACDelco plugs feature advanced suppressor designs that prevent flashover & leaks of combustion gases. Sponsored by ACDelco.

CC: Inside the combustion chamber, a spark plug is subjected to more than 25,000 volts, pressure up to 2,000 psi and temperatures reaching 4,000 degrees Fahrenheit. And on most late-model applications, they have to endure these conditions for 100,000 miles.

Oh, it doesn’t stop there. The spark plug must transfer just the right amount of heat into the cylinder head. If it transfers too much heat, the plug will foul and cause a misfire. Too little heat and the engine could be subjected to a pre-ignition event.

ACDelco OE Double Platinum and ACDelco OE Iridium spark plugs use the same spark plug technology as the original spark plugs including electrode design and metal type. This technology makes the spark plugs compatible with the latest direct fuel-injected and turbocharged engines. And they’re not just right at installation – OE Double Platinum and OE Iridium spark plugs are backed by a seven-year unlimited mile warranty.

The ACDelco OE line of spark plugs also includes ACDelco OE Conventional Spark Plugs with copper cores for older engines. The center electrode features a Nickel-Chrome sheath on the center electrode that prevents corrosion inside the cylinder, and black oxide coatings on the shell to prevent corrosion on the outside of the spark plug. OE Conventional plugs come with a 24-month unlimited mile warranty.

ACDelco Gold Rapid Fire Spark Plugs have a Platinum center electrode with superior spark characteristics and can reduce voltage requirements of the ignition system. In addition, the ribless insulator design helps to seal the plug to the boot. ACDelco Gold Rapid Fire spark plugs are backed with a three-year unlimited mile warranty.

All ACDelco plugs feature advanced suppressor designs that prevent flashover and leaks of combustion gases and block radio frequencies from interfering with electronic components.

ACDelco spark plugs are manufactured to GM OE specifications for form, fit and function and fit a wide range of vehicles. Before selecting a spark plug, consult the service information and the Online ACDelco catalog for the correct plugs for a vehicle. Remember, the new plugs should match the original plugs, so the replacement interval matches what is printed in the owner’s manual

With ACDelco spark plugs, you are getting over a century’s worth of experience and know-how designed for today’s most advanced vehicles.

The Schwartz name is synonymous with the automotive aftermarket. It started with Mort Schwartz, an engineer by training who served as chairman and CEO of four different automotive aftermarket companies from the 60s to the 90s. He gained C-suite level experience as the COO of a health and fitness company before joining forces with his dad to create Schwartz Advisors, an M&A and growth consultant for companies in the automotive aftermarket. In some ways, we sat around the dinner table one day and my dad said, I've got an idea. What do you think about this?" Rick explains. "One of [his goals was] to start a company that would be an advisor to the industry. That's a company that didn't exist when [he] owned his WDs. At the time I was running a company in San Diego1, and he knew that I wanted to do something more entrepreneurial and something that touched on the private equity world. He wanted to see something that could really provide value to the industry."In 2006, Schwartz Advisors was born, and since then, the firm has added 12 industry experts from different segments to consult on various deals and strategies. In this episode of AMN Drivetime, sponsored by AISIN, Rick delves into:The reasons why he initially studied international relations (1:00)Lessons he learned from working at large companies in different industries early in his career (1:44)How Schwartz Advisors was born (2:54)The breadth and depth of Schwartz Advisors' expertise (4:02)Trends in M&A in the macroeconomy and the automotive aftermarket (8:02)The types of business that are a good fit for the "buy-side" and "sell-side" of acquisitions (10:22)Lessons Rick learned from his father, Mort (12:42)Rapid Fire questions (14:18) AMN Drivetime is sponsored by AISIN. Find more episodes here.
