Delphi Automotive announced recently at AAPEX expansion initiatives to its training and diagnostic services program. These include three new advanced technology training courses, four future one-hour, online leader-led courses for customers in remote locations, customized extended training times and an updated RepairPoint website featuring the latest vehicle OE data, technical bulletins and repair diagnosis information.

Delphi also was the recent recipient of the National Excellence in Training Award for its CAN Data and Multiplexing training program from the Automotive Training Managers Council (ATMC).

The online leader-led courses are a result of Delphi customers requesting an alternative delivery option for leader-led training. Technicians located in remote areas find it difficult to attend scheduled classes due to location.

Delphi proposed the online leader-led solution and, based on the initial feedback, will be incorporating the online courses into Delphi’s overall training curriculum for 2012.

“When our customers need assistance, we will be there offering a solution to their challenge,” said Mark Shasteen, vice president, global independent aftermarket, Delphi Product & Service Solutions (DPSS). “While Delphi continues to emphasize our in-person, leader-led program as the premiere training method, we believe that online courses can provide a similar level of expertise and information as the face-to-face version, regardless of location. That is a true testimony to the Delphi program and our expert instructors. The ability to succinctly transfer important service and repair information is critical to today’s technician.”

Based on additional customer feedback, Delphi also has added the option to extend training time for its leader-led courses. If the customer requests additional time on a particular subject, Delphi will provide a follow-up class the same or next day. The content of the class is determined and agreed upon by the customer and Delphi instructor prior to the class.

“Our goal at Delphi is to make it easy for our customers to do business. Whether customers are looking for our products or services, they need to feel comfortable coming to us for a solution,” said Patrick Staarmann, sales director, training, DPSS. “With our legacy of more than 100 years of OE heritage, we use our background and expertise to develop training and diagnostic solutions that are relevant in today’s vehicle electronics reality. Our training program has the information to help our customers in their day-to-day responsibilities.”

Delphi Wins ATMC National Training Award
Delphi has won the National Excellent in Training Award for its CAN Data and Multiplexing training program from the Automotive Training Managers Council (ATMC).

ATMC awards are given annually and designed to emphasize the importance of training for the success of the automotive and truck industry. Only five companies were presented with this nationally recognized award.

Judged by a panel of ATMC training professionals, Delphi’s training course was selected from among numerous submissions for their ability to meet training objectives in a highly effective and innovative manner. The awards were presented at the ATMC Industry Reception held Nov. 2 during Industry Week in Las Vegas.

New Leader-Led Courses
Delphi introduces three new advanced technology courses to its 2012 curriculum:

• Hybrid Electric Vehicles – Diagnosis and Repair (eight-hour course): This course is designed to educate technicians, and shop owners on proper diagnosis, testing procedures and replacement of components related to hybrid vehicles.

• Common Rail Diesel – GM Duramax Diagnosis and Repair (four-hour
course): The GM Duramax is one of the most popular engines in the light- and medium-duty truck market. With electronics and sensors such an integral part of the diesel engine design, diagnostics can be difficult and time-consuming.

• Diagnosing and Repair Fuel Systems (four-hour course) – This course was designed to help technicians become familiar with performing fuel system diagnosis. This course will demonstrate how to use various test equipment on an operating “mock” fuel system so technicians can see the tests and the results on a functioning fuel system.

RepairPoint Updates
Available to customers in December, Delphi is updating its RepairPoint site to deliver the latest technical service bulletins, wiring diagrams, vehicle specifications and procedures, parts and labor data, and much more to its subscribers. Updates to its modules include:

• Diagnostic service and repair information: Technicians can complete repairs faster by accessing technical service bulletins and recall information, wiring and component diagrams, vehicle specifications and repair procedures.

• AutoIQ: Updated tool demonstrating features and functions of components in eight major vehicle systems.

• Online training: Automotive technician training with powerful management tools in an e-learning environment. The management tools allow users to keep track of training, so shops can manage educational requirements and identify areas for improvement.
