The Automotive Lift Institute (ALI) and its member companies are sponsoring the first car show to be held at Petty’s Garage, NASCAR legend Richard Petty’s high-performance speed shop in Randleman, NC. The 2011 Inaugural Spring Fling Car Show will take place on May 28, with gates opening at 7 a.m. The show will include the unveiling of Legacy by Petty, the one-of-a-kind Dodge Challenger custom made to pay tribute to Richard Petty. Petty’s Garage will also introduce its new Petty Superbird and showcase the limited edition Richard Petty Signature Series Challenger.

As part of the sponsorship, ALI will donate $1,500 to the Petty Family Foundation at the event.

“The King,” Richard Petty himself, is scheduled to make a presentation during the Legacy by Petty rollout, which starts at 10:30 a.m.

The Petty crew and ALI have a longstanding relationship: Richard Petty and his son, fellow NASCAR legend Kyle Petty, host Lifting It Right, a DVD focusing on vehicle lift safety that is produced and distributed by ALI and its members. Legacy by Petty is owned by R.W. “Bob” O’Gorman, president of ALI, and features the organization’s website URL, www.autolift.org, under each door opening. The website is a resource for shop owners, technicians and the public to learn more about buying and safely using a vehicle lift, both in professional shops and at home. The website also will serve as the clearinghouse for information about Legacy by Petty following its reveal, including an extensive photo gallery and appearance schedule.

Legacy by Petty tells the story of Richard Petty’s professional life, from his NASCAR Rookie of the Year career start to his record-setting 200 race wins and seven NASCAR Championships. The story is illustrated through detailed pictures airbrushed on the body by renowned artist Mickey Harris. The tributes continue inside the vehicle where, for example, the seats are upholstered in leather that matches Petty’s crocodile skin boots.

The Spring Fling Car Show is open to all makes and models. The $20 entry fee supports the Petty Family Foundation and the Foundation Fighting Blindness. Trophies will be awarded, and participants will receive free Legacy by Petty posters. To reserve a spot, call (877) 498-3745.

Free tours of Petty’s Garage will be offered all day during the car show. The Richard Petty Museum will also be open Friday and Saturday.

The ALI member companies sponsoring the Spring Fling Car Show at Petty’s Garage are: ARI-Hetra, BendPak/Ranger, Challenger Lifts, Dannmar Worldwide, Hunter Engineering, MAHA USA, Mohawk Resources, Ltd., Patriot Lifts & Equipment, PKS Equipment & Engineering, Quest/Ben Pearson, Rotary Lift/Forward Lift/Revolution Lift/Direct-Lift, Sefac Inc., Stertil-ALM, Stertil-Koni USA, and Wheeltronic Ltd.
