Attendees of Automechanika 2014 have access to a number of classes taught by experts on a range of topics including connected cars, collision-damage management and e-mobility.

Visitors to Automechanika are struck by the sheer size of the massive venue. Instead of a single location like visitors to AAPEX are used to, Automechanika is situated among a campus of interconnected buildings, which connects many halls with parts and product displays with conference rooms for learning.

During the one-day ZEIT automotive conference, held prior to the trade show, attendees discussed alternative power train systems, energy efficiency and battery technology.

During “Sought and Found! Recruiting Trainees for the Automotive Trade,” Prof. Georg Spottl of the University of Bremen and Prof. Matthias Becker of the University of Flensburg, presented a study and held a discussion panel on attracting, recruiting and retaining automotive trainees.

The topic of the connected car was the subject of a day-long conference. Representatives from IBM and Google discussed new digital business models and the benefits that new and emerging technologies hold for drivers.

Federal-Mogul Motorparts held a press conference where a number of European-centered announcements were made. Daniel Ninivaggi, co-CEO, Federal-Mogul Holdings Corp., and CEO, Federal-Mogul Motorparts; Martin Hendricks, president, Federal-Mogul Motorparts, EMEA; Rainer Bostel, senior VP and general manager braking, Federal-Mogul Motorparts; and Olivier Legrand, vice president, aftermarket, Federal-Mogul Motorparts EMEA, all took the stage to make the announcements.

The company announced that Daimler had chosen the company’s Ferodo zero-copper brake pad as original equipment for the new Mercedes-Benz C-class. The company also will launch a comprehensive range of a Glyco lead-free engine bearings for the aftermarket. In addition, it launched its new Nüral Elastothermic piston.

The company also announced its Champion and Ferodo brands will support Challenge4, in its world-record attempt to drive from Nordkapp, Norway, to Cape Agulhas, South Africa, in less than 28 days.
