BELFAST – A man with a 12-gauge shotgun came into Gerow’s Auto Service Monday allegedly demanding mechanics service his wife’s vehicle, a 2004 Isuzu Axiom. He left the Main Street shop under arrest on two counts of second-degree menacing and one count of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Aaron M. Morton, 24, of Caneadea, posted $2,500 bail Tuesday and was released from the county jail, corrections officers said. He is due to appear Jan. 24 in Belfast Town Court.

Gerow’s owner, Justin Gerow, a witness to the incident, said Tuesday a truck was being worked on when Morton entered the shop. Gerow said four people were there at the time — Morton, Gerow, one of Morton’s cousins and a friend of Gerow’s who did not work at the auto shop. Another cousin of Morton’s arrived at some point, Gerow said.

The shop owner said they later found out the shotgun was not loaded.
