A 15-year-old LaPorte girl was recovering Wednesday from a serious injury sustained when she started a car that crashed into a muffler shop.

Bryanna Goodloe was transported to IU Health LaPorte Hospital with a possible fracture or dislocation to her leg, according to a LaPorte police report released Wednesday.

Police said the girl’s mother went to Main Muffler at 201 E. Lincolnway to pick up her vehicle Sunday after having it repaired. Her daughter grabbed the keys from the mechanic to start the vehicle to allow it to warm up, police said.

The vehicle, though, was in gear when she turned the ignition. The parking brake was engaged but vehicle began moving forward and Goodloe jumped in to try and stop it. Police said the vehicle crashed into an overhead door in one of the garage bays.
