Champion Spark Plugs Help Power Breakthrough Sprint Cup Victory for Greg Biffle, New Ford Engine at Pocono

Federal-Mogul Corporation's "Performance Driven" Champion spark plugs helped power a breakthrough victory for Greg Biffle and Ford Racing's new NASCAR engine in Sunday's Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500 Sprint Cup event at Pocono Raceway.

Federal-Mogul Corporation’s “Performance Driven” Champion spark plugs helped power a breakthrough victory for Greg Biffle and Ford Racing’s new NASCAR engine in Sunday’s Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500 Sprint Cup event at Pocono Raceway.

Biffle and the Roush Fenway Racing-owned #16 Ford pulled away from the field with 21 laps remaining to capture the inaugural Cup Series win for Ford Racing’s sophisticated new “FR9” engine. The win maintained the Champion brand’s momentum from a dominating performance in last week’s Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis, where it swept the top four finishers. Champion plugs also powered Doug Kalitta’s 8,000-horsepower Kalitta Air dragster to the NHRA Top Fuel title in last week’s Mopar Mile-High Nationals in Denver.

“Everyone has been watching the steady progress of Ford’s new NASCAR engine, and this weekend’s trip to the winner’s circle says it all. We’re very proud that Champion spark plugs played an important role in this success,” said Federal-Mogul Motorsports Director Tim Nelson. “Greg obviously had a horsepower advantage in the closing laps, which speaks to the competitive genius of Jack Roush and his organization, the durability of Ford’s new engine, and the Champion brand’s race-proven plug technologies.”

Champion racing plugs feature leading-edge surface-gap designs that help optimize spark location within the combustion chamber for maximum burn rate. Each plug is equipped with a solid nickel core electrode for maximum performance and thermal efficiency in today’s most sophisticated NASCAR engines.

Previously provided only to NASCAR teams, these plugs are now available through any Champion spark plug supplier to help engine builders, weekend racers and street performance enthusiasts optimize engine performance.

Champion plugs and other leading technologies from Federal-Mogul are featured in the company’s innovative “Smart Choice” consumer education campaign, designed to reinforce the message that longer lasting, better performing premium replacement products are today’s best option for virtually any common automotive repair.
