AUGUSTA, GA — Two brothers are responsible for catching a suspected car thief in Richmond County.

The Bevill brothers not only run an auto repair business together, but worked together to catch a man in the process of stealing a truck from an Augusta neighborhood.

The capture happened Wednesday morning at Eddie’s Auto Service located on the corner of Mike Padgett Highway and Sims Road.

Tommy Bevill says his brother Kevin was the first to see the suspect’s attempt to steal the truck from a nearby home. Kevin chased the man towards their shop. That’s when Tommy stepped in.

Tommy says the suspect ran right by him while he was fixing a car. He caught up to him in their backyard.

The Bevills held the man for several minutes until deputies to arrived.

"The way I was raised, if you see someone doing something they ain’t supposed to be doing, you need to call them on it. I’m the type if I see somebody’s purse get snatched, I’m going to do everything in my power to catch whoever done it,” Bevill said.

Bevill says there have been a lot of car thefts in that area lately.

The transmission and engine had already been taken from the recovered truck. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
