CITGO SUPERGARD Synthetic Motor Oil Now Meets General Motors’ Specification for Use in Corvettes

CITGO Petroleum Corporation's SUPERGARD Synthetic Motor Oil balances superior synthetic base fluids with advanced additives to provide the ultimate protection for today's gasoline engines.

CITGO Petroleum Corporation’s SUPERGARD Synthetic Motor Oil balances superior synthetic base fluids with advanced additives to provide the ultimate protection for today’s gasoline engines. Recently, both SAE 5W-30 and SAE 10W-30 SUPERGARD Synthetic passed stringent testing to meet General Motors’ GM4718M specification requirement for Corvette warranties and certain other ultra-high performance engines.

SUPERGARD Synthetic forms a barrier against varnish, sludge, rust, soot, oxidized fuel and other contaminants that can rob a turbo- or super-charged engine of performance. With high-temperature/high-shear characteristics far above conventional motor oils, SUPERGARD Synthetic can also help neutralize acid, reduce wear and extend engine life.

“This announcement is significant because many ILSAC GF-4 synthetic motor oils are not approved by GM for use in Corvettes. The fact that SUPERGARD Synthetic now meets GM’s specification demonstrates CITGO’s ongoing commitment to quality,” says David Kunkel, Retail/Installed/Private Label Sales and Marketing Manager of Automotive Lubricants for CITGO.

SUPERGARD Synthetic is formulated to provide a level of protection few motor oils can achieve. Fully compatible with both conventional and synthetic motor oils, it has several performance-enhancing features, including:
• Excellent low-temperature starting characteristics;
• Outstanding at high speed, high load, high temperature;
• Excellent wear protection and friction reduction;
• Exceeds fuel efficiency requirements for API Energy Conserving rating;
• SAE 5W-30 viscosity grade exceeds to requirements of ACEA A1-02;
• SAE 10W-30 viscosity grade meets ACEA A3-02 quality performance;
• Both SAE 5W-30 and 10W-30 grades exceed requirements for GF-4, API SM, SL/CF and previous API services; and
• Recommended for use in gasoline engines that have been converted to operate on compressed natural gas (CNG), liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG that contains propane and butane). Consult the engine manufacturer’s manual for proper lubricant selection.

CITGO SUPERGARD Synthetic Motor Oil is not recommended for use in diesel engines in passenger cars, vans or light trucks. CITGO CITGARD Heavy Duty Engine Oil should be used for those applications.
