OTC Introduces Complete Line of Cam Tool Kits for the GM Vehicle Family

OTC, a business unit of SPX Corporation, is proud to introduce its new line of GM Cam Tool Kits used specifically for servicing timing belts, chains, head gaskets, or completing valvetrain repairs and even water pumps on GM vehicles.

OTC, a business unit of SPX Corporation, is proud to introduce its new line of GM Cam Tool Kits used specifically for servicing timing belts, chains, head gaskets, or completing valvetrain repairs and even water pumps on GM vehicles. Based on the OE design, the OTC Cam Tool Kits cover more than 90 GM model-year-vehicle applications and include all of the necessary components to service or repair GM engines as well as locating both intake and exhaust cams. Packaged in a durable, plastic molded storage case with separate compartments for each piece; all cam tools can be kept organized and easily found.

Currently, shop owners and technicians have to buy individual cam tools from the OEMs. Now, tools only available from the OEM are offered to the aftermarket in a kit configuration. This means that OTC is able to offer its customers cam tools that are affordable, OE-equivalent or better in service life and performance.

“In the aftermarket, job comebacks due to improper cam timing are one of the biggest concerns for shop owners and technicians because they greatly reduce productivity and profitability, not to mention the loss of repeat business and negative word of mouth,” said SPX Product Marketing Manager Peter Truhler. “Now, in collaboration with our GM partners, OTC has designed a new line of GM cam tool kits that provide them with the added convenience of having all of the tools needed to fine-tune camshaft timing on GM engines in one affordable, easy-to-use kit.”

The OTC GM cam tool product line is conveniently broken down into four comprehensive kit configurations designed to provide the necessary components for servicing GM 4-, 5-, 6- or V-6 cylinder vehicles.

GM I4 Cam Tool Kit (P/N 6685) – A comprehensive tool kit designed to save time when servicing GM 2.0L, 2.2L, 2.3L and 2.4L I4-cylinder engines and used on Buicks, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, Pontiac and Saturn models. This kit contains the necessary tools to cover virtually all GM 4-cylinder engines from 1988 to 2005 model years.

GM NorthStar V8 Cam Tool Kit (P/N 6686) – This specialty kit is indispensable to both dealers and independents for quickly and properly servicing the GM NorthStar 4.0L and 4.6L V8 engines as more than one million NorthStar engines have been sold since 1993.

GM V6 Cylinder Cam Tool Kit (P/N 6687) – This specialty V6 kit includes the required tools to adjust and hold camshaft timing on the GM 3.0L and 3.2L V6-cylinder engines, which are used on the Cadillac Catera; Cadillac CTS; Saturn L Series; Saturn Vue; and Saab 9-5 vehicle models. To avoid improper cam timing when servicing V-6 GM engines, OTC has engineered a cam timing system design that locks the crankshaft and cams into a specific position prior to cylinder head removal. This method helps technicians avoid any misalignment, resulting in piston to valve damage.

GM IV5/6 In-line 5, 6 and V6 Cam Tool Kit (P/N 6688) – A comprehensive kit designed to save time when servicing the large group of GM In-Line 5-cylinder, In-Line 6-cylinder and V6-cylinder engines including the 2.5L, 2.8L, 3.5L and 3.6L V6 engines, as well as, the 3.5L In-Line 5-cylinder and 4.2L In-Line 6-cylinder engines used on the Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick, GMC, Hummer H3, Oldsmobile, Saab and Saturn vehicle models from 1999 to 2006 model years.
