“We want to make people aware that we provide some great spool gun solutions that make aluminum welding more affordable than ever before,” says Doug DiVenere, divisional director of marketing, Miller Electric Mfg. Co.

Because of its low columnar strength, feeding aluminum wire has been likened to pushing a wet noodle through a straw. This can lead to wire feeding issues, such as “bird-nesting,” with a traditional MIG gun. A spool gun, which can hold a 1-lb. spool of aluminum wire, eliminates many of these issues since the wire only has to feed a few inches. Previously, the only spool guns available could cost as much as the power source; however, the Spoolmate 100 Series and Spoolmate 3035 provide an affordable solution, especially to home hobbyists and professionals who occasionally weld aluminum.
