Daniel Gilyeat of Kansas City is a U.S. Marine veteran who served two tours in Iraq and lost his left leg in combat. The single father of four was chosen to receive a complete home renovation from Emmy-award-winning television show “Extreme Makeover Home Edition” in November 2007.

A key element of the renovation is a garage decked out as a car enthusiast’s dream shop, complete with plasma TV, tools and a four-post vehicle lift from Rotary Lift (www.rotarylift.com) as the centerpiece. The lift can be used to raise vehicles to a comfortable working height or to store two cars in the same amount of space as a single vehicle.

Rotary donated the lift, which was installed by Myers Brothers of Kansas City. Myers Brothers donated its time and materials to the project.

“Extreme Makeover Home Edition” is a reality show in which a deserving family’s home is completely rebuilt — including every room, the exterior and the landscaping — in a single week. Gilyeat’s new home encompasses 3,000 square feet and is handicap accessible.

The Gilyeat family episode is scheduled to air on ABC Sunday, Feb. 10. Check local listings for time.
