Federal-Mogul Motorparts To Offer $30,000 In ‘Garage Gurus’ Scholarships For Future Automotive Technicians

Garage-Gurus-Logo-300x166Federal-Mogul Motorparts’ “Garage Gurus” will award $30,000 in scholarships to qualified full-time and part-time students who are studying to become professional automotive technicians. The program was announced in conjunction with the grand openings of the first three Garage Gurus regional training centers, in Skokie, Ill., Van Nuys, Calif., and the Bronx, N.Y. Federal-Mogul Motorparts is a division of Federal-Mogul Holdings Corp.

Garage Gurus – representing what will be a nationwide network of facilities offering on-site, online and on-demand technical training and related support for vehicle repair professionals – will award 12 $2,500 scholarships for the 2015-‘16 academic year. Applications will be accepted today through June 30. Recipients will be announced July 10.

“Garage Gurus represents an important investment in the future of tens of thousands of local automotive service businesses and their employees,” said Federal-Mogul Motorparts CEO Dan Ninivaggi. “This new scholarship program extends our investment to the next generation of talented, highly trained professionals who will help keep millions of vehicles in safe, reliable condition.”

Applicants for the 2015-‘16 scholarships must be enrolled, on a full-time or part-time basis, at an accredited, U.S.-based automotive technical school, college or university. Scholarship awards will be based on completed applications, written essays or videos describing “Why I want to be a top technician,” and other criteria. All applications and related materials will be reviewed by Federal-Mogul Motorparts employees and its team of ASE Master-certified Garage Gurus.

Garage Gurus is a first-of-its-kind national training platform designed to help professional technicians keep pace with the latest vehicle system and component technologies. A total of 15 Garage Gurus locations are expected to be in operation by the end of 2015, extending the network’s reach to more than 67,000 vehicle repair businesses. Each facility will include multiple vehicle repair bays and classrooms and serve as the operating base for one or more “Gurus-On-The-Go” product technology vans.

Garage Gurus’ curriculum comprises more than 100 diagnostic and repair courses, including on-site workshops, field clinics, and distance learning modules and webinars offered at FMgaragegurus.com.  All training, product demonstrations and related assistance are delivered by the network’s more than 100 ASE-certified Gurus.
