New Makita Straight Grinder Combines Power, Durability and Versatility

GS5000 is ideal for metalworking applications in hard-to-reach spaces. It is powered by a Makita-built 7 amp motor with 5,600 rpm for demanding applications.

Makita 5Makita has added to its expanding metalworking lineup with the release of its 5″ Straight Grinder, model GS5000.

The GS5000 combines power and versatility, and is engineered for applications in hard-to-reach spaces. It is ideal for metal grinding, paint and rust removal, ship and yard maintenance, steel grinding and cutting, body work, smoothing weld beads, and more.

The GS5000 is powered by a Makita-built 7 amp motor with 5,600 rpm for demanding applications. The spiral bevel gears are engineered for smoother rotation and a more efficient transfer of energy. Convenience feature include a “tool-less” guard cap removal for quick wheel changes and externally accessible brushes for easier service-ability. Additional features include a rubberized handle and gear housing, and an elongated body design with straight grinding wheel position for applications in hard-to-reach spaces.

Dust and Debris Defense
Consistent with other grinders in Makita’s expanding metalworking line-up, the GS5000 features three key dust and debris defense features:

Labyrinth Construction: Labyrinth construction is a series of channels engineered to capture dust and debris. This prevents contaminants from penetrating the gear box and main bearing.

Zig-Zag Varnish: Makita’s unique “zig zag” application pattern is a more innovative option than simply covering the coils with epoxy: the zig-zag pattern allows space for heat to escape, yet at the same time the zig-zag pattern forms a solid barrier under rotation to prevent debris from attaching.

Dust-Sealed Drive Bearing: A spring-loaded metal seal is engineered to help prevent dust and debris from penetrating the drive bearing.

The GS5000 is engineered for professional metalworking applications, and is ideal for welders, fabricators, ship yard workers, electricians, automotive technicians, ornamental iron workers and more.
