Champion-Powered Engines Claim Pole, Finish 1-2 In Quicken Loans 400

Engines powered by Federal-Mogul's "Performance Driven" Champion spark plugs claimed the pole and finished 1-2 in Sunday's Quicken Loans 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Michigan International Speedway.

Engines powered by Federal-Mogul’s “Performance Driven” Champion spark plugs claimed the pole and finished 1-2 in Sunday’s Quicken Loans 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Michigan International Speedway.

Greg Biffle’s Champion-fired No. 16 Ford Fusion pulled away over the final 27 laps to secure the driver’s first win of the season and notch Ford’s 1,000th victory in NASCAR national series competition. Champion spokesperson Kevin Harvick finished second in his Champion-equipped No. 29 Chevrolet SS, while Carl Edwards (No. 99 Ford) relied on Champion power to claim the pole in Friday’s qualifying session.

“It was another great weekend for the Champion brand and the latest generation of ‘Performance Driven’ Champion plug technologies,” said Federal-Mogul Motorsports Director Tim Nelson. “Champion plugs were number one coming out of Friday’s qualifying and Greg and Kevin’s engines were running at their very best here all day on Sunday.”

Biffle led a race-high 48 laps, including the final 27 en route to his 19th career Sprint Cup victory and second straight win at MIS. The Roush Fenway Racing-owned Ford took the lead for the final time on Lap 173 and withstood a furious challenge from Sprint Cup points leader Jimmie Johnson to clinch Roush Fenway’s 314th NASCAR win and Ford’s 1,000th.

“We congratulate Jack (Roush) and Ford on a truly historic achievement and we’re proud that Champion spark plugs played an important role,” Nelson said.
