March 31 is the early-bird registration deadline for the Automotive Service Association’s 2009 Annual Convention to be held April 30-May 2 at the Caribe Royale All-Suites Hotel and Convention Center in Orlando, FL. Members who register before the early-bird deadline will enjoy significant savings – up to $300. In addition, members are encouraged to register promptly as hotel rooms may be limited.

“We’re providing more content this year and we’ve created an agenda that provides attendees with two days full of management education and industry information – more than ever before,” said Bill Haas, ASA’s vice president of education and training. “We’ve also added a Saturday-only registration option that provides even more convenience for our shop owner members by allowing them to take less time away from their business, and still focus on industry issues that affect most shop owners today.”

Highlighting the agenda will be the ASA board of directors meeting; a State of the Association address by Ron Pyle, ASA president and chief staff executive; an affiliate assembly meeting; a keynote address by Meagan Johnson addressing multigenerational issues; informative Industry Impact sessions focusing on the automotive service and collision repair segments of the industry; three Automotive Management Institute (AMI) seminars; Friday night’s Benefit Provider Networking Reception; and ASA’s annual Celebration of Excellence awards ceremony, which will again host the AMI graduation ceremony; and an AMI dessert reception.

Online registration is open at www.ASAshop.org/Annual09 until April 20; however, the early-bird discount ends Tuesday, March 31. In addition to providing secure, convenient online registration, the ASA Annual Convention Web site also includes daily agendas, education courses, a list of sponsors and Industry Impact session descriptions.

ASA advances professionalism and excellence in the automotive repair industry through education, representation and member services. For additional information about ASA, go to http://www.ASAshop.org, or visit ASA’s legislative website at http://www.TakingTheHill.com.

10. Writing An Estimate

To give the customer an apples-to-apples comparison, you may opt to write your estimate in two sections. The loaded strut option, if available, will be very straightforward and require less installation time. For the second section, give the customer a breakdown of the cost for each component required for a complete repair, explaining that each of these pieces is already included in the cost of the loaded assembly. When purchased individually, these components tend to add up quickly and often exceed the price of the pre-assembled unit. Finally, itemize the difference in labor costs, pointing out the additional time required to “rebuild” the strut, which is above and beyond the time already required for removal and reinstallation.
