The Champion-powered No. 33 “Chevy 100 Years” Impala driven by Clint Bowyer took the checkered flag with a thrilling final-lap pass in Sunday’s Good Sam Club 500 Sprint Cup race.  Bowyer, who recorded Richard Childress Racing’s 100th Cup Series win, beat Jeff Burton and the Champion-fired No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet by just 0.18 second.

In Truck Series competition, Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) teammates Mike Wallace and Ron Hornaday finished one-two in Saturday’s Coca Cola 250. Both Wallace’s No. 33 Anderson’s Maple Syrup Chevrolet Silverado and Hornaday’s No. 2 Bad Boy Buggies Silverado are powered by Champion plugs, as are KHI’s three NASCAR Nationwide Series cars.

The Champion brand is also running one-two in the 2011 Chase for the Sprint Cup, with points leader Carl Edwards (No. 99 Ford) and runner-up Matt Kenseth (No. 17 Ford) each relying on “Performance Driven” Champion spark plugs.

“It was an historic weekend for Richard Childress Racing and the KHI organization and another impressive demonstration of the power and reliability of Champion spark plugs,” said Federal-Mogul Motorsports Director Tim Nelson. “We’re confident that the Champion ‘bow tie’ will be part of another Sprint Cup title in 2011, adding to a resume that already includes hundreds of championships covering virtually every form of racing.”
