New Jersey Man Uses Butter Knife to Steal Tires

Police said a Rahway, NJ, man was arrested Thursday (April 23, 2009) in nearby Linden after he tried to use a butter knife to steal the tires and wheels off an Audi. The man was stopped by police after a report of a suspicious person, and his butter knife was discovered.

Police said a Rahway, NJ, man was arrested Thursday (April 23, 2009) in nearby Linden after he tried to use a butter knife to steal the tires and wheels off an Audi.

The man was stopped by police after a report of a suspicious person, and his butter knife was discovered. The owner of the Audi then arrived on the scene and identified him as the man he saw trying to tamper with his car, which had been parked in a nearby driveway.

Police said the man was trying to use the butter knife to pry the cover off the wheels to access the lug nuts. According to police, the custom 19-inch wheels are worth $6,000.

After admitting the attempted theft, the man was charged with theft and possession of burglary tools and his bail was set at $5,500.
