Delphi Corp. and Babcox Publication’s Tomorrow’s Technician magazine are bringing the future of the automotive aftermarket to life for a class at the Tennessee Technology Center in Jackson, TN. Tomorrow’s Technician selected the class as the winner of the magazine’s monthly pop quiz, and Delphi awarded the class with $3,500 in tools and equipment. Representatives from Delphi and Babcox were at the school to present a plaque, tools and equipment, participate in a school tour and interact with students. Along with the award, Delphi provided a training seminar for students on the future of vehicle technology.

During 2007, Delphi sponsored the monthly pop quiz answers in Tomorrow’s Technician, testing readers’ knowledge on service parts and systems. The classroom at the Tennessee Technology Center at Jackson was randomly selected from registered participants to win tools and equipment from Delphi’s line of workshop solutions and productivity tools.

“We are excited to have the opportunity to encourage students to pursue a future in this industry,” said Beth Skove, publisher of Tomorrow’s Technician magazine. “With the increasing complexity of cars today, this industry needs well-educated future technicians who possess the skills necessary to run the shops of tomorrow.”

Through this initiative, Delphi continues its commitment to education in the aftermarket by enriching the teaching and learning experiences of instructors and students in the automotive service industry.

“This has been a fun way to help foster the education of future members of the automotive service industry. Hands-on events like this are great opportunities for Delphi to show students what new technologies are coming down the road for the automotive aftermarket,” said Norm Young, vice president of North American sales and global service operations, independent aftermarket, Delphi Product & Service Solutions.

Aimed at reaching the next generation of automotive service professionals, Tomorrow’s Technician is designed for a target audience of automotive students, delivering technical information about servicing today’s vehicles; assisting educators with a “real world” supplement to classroom assignments; and reinforcing the students’ decisions to see a career in the automotive industry.

The Tennessee Technology Center at Jackson provides premier workforce development through high-quality competency-based training for individuals seeking employment or advancement, high-quality training and retraining for employed workers, and high-quality training that is economical and accessible to residents in the service area.
