Volkswagen Tech Tip: Clutch Pedal Does Not Fully Return/Cruise Control Inoperative

On some VWs, the clutch pedal does not fully return to a stop and the cruise control (if equipped) will not function. The problem may be caused by the clutch pedal over the center spring dropping out of position.

On some VWs, the clutch pedal does not fully return to a stop and the cruise control (if equipped) will not function. The problem may be caused by the clutch pedal over the center spring dropping out of position. See Fig. 1, arrow.

AFFECTED MODELS:
•1995-on Golf, GTI and Jetta with 02A transmissions.

SERVICE PROCEDURE:
1. Inspect the clutch pedal assembly for the missing spring.

2. If the spring is missing, locate and reinstall the spring.

3. Replace support A in Fig. 1 with a new support, P/N 1HM 419 555D, and install pedal stop P/N 861 805 461 into the support at the arrow in Fig. 1.
