Toyota: Check Brake System

Toyota Tech Tip: ‘Check Brake System’ Displayed At Startup

An updated skid control ECU logic is now available to address this concern.

Some 2015 – 2017 model year Camry vehicles may exhibit a “Check Brake System” message displayed on the Multi-information Display (MD) in the combination meter/instrument cluster assembly at engine startup along with Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) C1441. An updated skid control ECU logic is now available to address this concern.

NOTE: This bulletin does NOT prevent DTC C1441 from occurring.

These standards are set by the Department of Transportation (DOT), and the kicker is these standards must be met with the force applied by a little old lady. But, over time, the cables can stretch and the friction materials change their length and thickness, which is why adjustments to the system are required.
