Police say burglars broke into Benning Auto Parts on 17th Street this morning and got away with a 500 lbs engine. The owner of the shop says this isn’t the first time, but now he’s taking steps to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

"We’ve had this problem for a month, We’ve had several break-ins" Roy Parks owns Benning Auto Parts. He says this morning’s break in is the 6th in just a couple of years. But Parks says, this one’s different.

Parks says, "Somebody had broke in our front door and loaded up an engine and hauled it off. We figured it would take at least two or three people. It’s not something you can put in the trunk of your car. "

That’s because the engine weighed about 500 lbs, the average size. But this wasn’t just any engine; it’s used for performance vehicles.

Parks explains, "Really the only use for it is if someone wanted to use it as a racecar in a dragstrip.”
