Tension Pulley Installation: CT 887 for Daewoo and Chevrolet Aveo 1.4 16V, 1.5 16 V, 1.6 16 V

The moving indicator on the tension pulley breaks off during installation and severely damages the belt. Possible causes include: 1) Failure to loosen the water pump and to use it for adjusting the tension as described in the instructions; and 2) During the specified two full rotations of the engine at increased tension (hole marking on the base plate), the limit stop is subjected to excessive load and the moving indicator breaks off.

Problem:
The moving indicator on the tension pulley breaks off during installation and severely damages the belt.

Cause:
Two possible causes:

1. Failure to loosen the water pump and to use it for adjusting the tension as described in the instructions.

2. During the specified two full rotations of the engine at increased tension (hole marking on the base plate), the limit stop is subjected to excessive load and the moving indicator breaks off.

Solution:
1. Ensure the water pump is loosened, and then turned using the corresponding tool OE (J-4249 2) and finally tightened again to 8-10 Nm.

2. The moving indicator must be positioned to ensure that it bears no load at anytime. After turning the engine twice; both indicators must be perfectly aligned with one another.
