Tenneco’s Walker Brand Positioned as Technology Leader in OBD II Converter Market

Tenneco's Walker emissions control brand has unveiled a comprehensive new line of advanced, original equipment-inspired replacement converters that address the unique demands and repair challenges for thousands of late-model (1996 and newer) vehicles equipped with OBD II technology.

As the automotive emissions control market becomes increasingly complex and competitive, Tenneco Inc. has announced a variety of programs designed to help aftermarket businesses capture a larger share of the catalytic converter replacement category across virtually all makes and models.

Tenneco’s Walker emissions control brand has unveiled a comprehensive new line of advanced, original equipment-inspired replacement converters that address the unique demands and repair challenges for thousands of late-model (1996 and newer) vehicles equipped with OBD II technology. New Walker Ultra converters are application engineered to help repair businesses prevent repeat issues on OBD II applications. Each converter features a proprietary mix of precious metals and an enhanced high-temperature stabilized Ceria washcoat to meet the demands of each domestic and foreign-nameplate application – even highly sensitive GM, Honda and Toyota models.

Tenneco is supporting this comprehensive new converter solution with a major investment in new application coverage, including nearly 100 additional converter SKUs that will be introduced in 2010. The company added more than 100 new direct-fit and universal converters to the Walker line in 2009.

“Distributors and service providers look to Tenneco and the Walker brand for the right converter choice for every application – and by the right choice we mean a unit that will solve the problem the first time,” said Frank Murkowski, emissions control marketing manager, North American aftermarket, Tenneco. “Our new Walker Ultra product line offers precisely the right solution for any cataloged OBD II application. This comprehensive approach helps eliminate confusion and improve shop productivity and profitability.”

The expanded Walker converter line also includes standard Walker catalytic converters for virtually any pre-OBD II (pre-1996) domestic or foreign-nameplate model, and new Walker CalCat converters for the California market.

As the proven solution for pre-OBD II applications, standard Walker converters feature robust catalyst loading and cleaning efficiency that are well matched to the operating requirements and regulations governing these older vehicles. Each converter is manufactured from premium-grade materials and delivers the precise fit that has made Walker the preferred choice of many technicians.

Walker CalCat converters utilize a highly sophisticated catalyst technology that meets California’s stringent new standards. As a leader in the emissions control industry, Tenneco was one of the first converter suppliers to offer a comprehensive line of California-legal converters when the state’s new regulations went into effect January 1, 2009.
