Tenneco Inc. and its Monroe shocks and struts brand co-sponsored a family safety event that helped hundreds of Chicago area consumers learn how important automotive services and repairs can enhance their driving safety.
Tenneco, manufacturer of Monroe shocks and struts and a broad range of other automotive original equipment and replacement products, joined Radio Disney and the Car-X chain of automotive service centers in presenting the Illinois Tollway “Family Safety Fair” in Downer’s Grove, Ill., in late June. The event included free child safety seat inspections, a live broadcast of the Radio Disney “Road Crew” show, a drawing to meet actor and musician Mitchel Musso, Monroe car care clinics presented by former NASCAR Canada driver Kelly Williams, and the Monroe “Ride and Drive” automotive safety experience. Participants received a variety of free educational materials, including the comprehensive Car Care Guide published by the Car Care Council.
“Tenneco is expanding its hands-on automotive education programs to include thousands of consumers in leading markets across North America,” said Susan Ulrey, executive director, sales operations and customer service, North American aftermarket. “We’re finding that drivers of all ages and backgrounds want to become more knowledgeable about key automotive systems and components that impact their driving safety.”
The Monroe-sponsored car care clinics cover a variety of common automotive service needs, including fluid and filter replacement, tire care, brake system maintenance, and replacement of worn shock absorbers, struts and chassis parts. Family Safety Fair participants also took part in the hands-on Monroe Ride and Drive experience, which put them behind the wheel where they could compare the ride and handling characteristics of vehicles equipped with new ride control components and vehicles equipped with worn components.
“The Monroe Ride and Drive is very popular among consumers as well as automotive technicians,” Ulrey said. “When the participants complete the experience, they invariably tell us how surprised they are by the effects worn shocks can have on vehicle steering, stopping and stability.”
