SMP (Standard Motor Products, Inc.) announces it has added a new training section to its Standard brand website, www.standardbrand.com, to serve as a valuable resource for both counterpeople and professional technicians. Visitors to the site will find the training section listed on the left side of the homepage, with the options for Counter Training and Technician’s Tool Box.

“With the Internet playing such an integral part of our daily lives, we felt it was important to add an online training component to our website that would allow counterpeople and technicians to learn more about our Standard brand products at their own pace and at a time when it is convenient for them,” said Jim Johnson, director of the corporate training department. “We will be updating the website frequently, so we encourage counterpeople and technicians to visit often to take full advantage of all the online training opportunities that we offer.”

The Counter Training page provides in-depth knowledge about the Standard brand products that counter personnel are selling. Visitors will find the Online Counterperson Product Information Program, which will help them learn about the function of several products and the quality features that are designed and manufactured into them. The program also covers the technical functions of vehicle systems. Training modules are offered for ignition parts, oxygen sensors, fuel ignition, emission parts, ignition wires, battery cables and ABS speed sensors. Each topic is designed to take between 10-20 minutes to complete, but some groups may take longer due to the complexity of the product group.
The Counter Training site also contains a Counterperson Tip of the Week, featuring informative audio/slide presentations, an Engine Management Product Spotlight and a Video of the Week segment.

The Technician’s Toolbox contains useful information to help technicians solve real-world problems. Technicians will benefit from the Video of the Week segment and an extensive video library. They will also find a variety of useful repair Power Tips that explain the “why” behind automotive symptoms. The Wave Forms section offers several waveform files so technicians can quickly analyze component conditions to reach diagnostic conclusions.

SMP will update the website training components, such as the product spotlights, video segments and tips, on a continual basis.
