The bottom end of the strut is inserted into a clamp or vise of the hub casting. With time and exposure to the elements, there is a considerable amount of metal-to-metal bonding between the strut and clamp.

Thus, the task of strut removal can be frustrating. However, those stubborn struts are easily removed after prying open the clamps by inserting these special Oval Pin Drive Bits into the clamp slit and rotating the bit in conjunction with a ratchet.
