Authorities closed down a part of Sixth Avenue Wednesday night after an auto repair store fire sparked a two-alarm blaze.

Amarillo firefighters said the blaze started about 7:30 p.m. when a mechanic was working on a vehicle at Flower’s Service Center Auto Repair, 2813 S.W. Sixth Ave.

Fire officials said the man was working with a fuel line when it ruptured, spilling fuel that then caught fire.

The blaze, which was under control by about 7:50 p.m., caused about $30,000 in damage to the building and the vehicle, fire officials said.
