RTI Offers Service Tips to Get Your Coolant Exchange Machines Ready for Fall Weather

Now is a good time to take a few minutes to check your MCX Coolant Exchange Machine to ensure that it's in good shape and ready for the upcoming peak coolant service season.

Now is a good time to take a few minutes to check your MCX Coolant Exchange Machine to ensure that it’s in good shape and ready for the upcoming peak coolant service season.

Following is a checklist you can use.
• Remove the tanks and flush with water to remove any debris which could clog the MCX.
• Clean the check valve on the end of the dip tube for the new coolant tank.
• An MCX-2 (has radiator pressure relief function and requires shop air) has a filter on the rear. Open the bowl and clean the screen as required. Also, check the condition of the clear plastic hose.
• Check that all adapters, hoses and clamps are available and in good condition. The operation manual shows the complete set of adapters and hoses which shipped with the MCX. Operation manuals are available on the RTI website. Check the couplers on the ends of the black and green hoses and verify that they make a good connection to the adapters. Look for any sign of wear and replace if necessary.
• Check the waste pump impeller and replace if there is any sign of wear. The operation manual has instructions. Apply a generous coating of petroleum jelly to the ends of the impeller fins and the housing of the pump to prolong the impeller life. It’s a good idea to have an extra impeller on hand.
• Check the power cable for any cuts or nicks. Also, check the cable connection to the battery clamps and repair as needed. Look for any sign of corrosion from battery acid and clean as required.
• Check the rim bolts in the rear tires. Make sure they are all present and tight. Check the pressure in each tire.
• A caster kit is available to adapt the MCX so that, for example, it can be rolled through a narrow door. Call RTI or visit the RTI website to inquire about P/N: 319882.
