Four unfortunate people ended up hospitalized near St. Augustine, FL, after a one-vehicle crash on I-95 – caused, according to a Florida High Patrol trooper, by “old, dry, rotted tires.”

The driver, a 33-year-old from DeLand, FL, had four passengers in his 1999 Ford Explorer and was tooling down I-95 when the tread on one of the rear tires separated, causing the driver to lose control.

“The tires were not maintained as they should be,” the Trooper told the St. Augustine Record. “There was dry rot all down the tread portion of the tire where it separated.”

The crippled Explorer veered off the highway and overturned several times. Only the driver was wearing a seat belt, the other four were ejected from the vehicle.

Police say that charges are pending in the accident.

What I want to know is just how long will it take for the product liability lawsuits to fly.

Cause, you know, it was the tires. The old, dry, rotted tires.
