ProgRama Scan Tools, a division of ProgRama, Inc., announces a new capability to the automotive computer-based scan tool. The PC Retriever Scan Tool rivals manufacturer-designed scan tools at a fraction of the cost. After a four year development period, the first PC Retriever sold was in April of 2004. The PC Retriever software is an ongoing process of development that improves, as changes are made in vehicle models yearly by the various car manufacturers. With an integrated software update feature built into the PC Retriever software, the automotive technician may perform most software updates online. At present ProgRama Scan Tools offers diagnostic capabilities for Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Volvo, VW/Audi and OBD II systems.

Most recently, ProgRama Scan Tools released an upgrade for the PC Retriever System to include J2534 Pass-Thru Programming compatibility customized for BMW vehicles.

J2534 Pass-Thru Programming is a standard to program automotive electronic control modules using the original vehicle manufacturers’ software. The EPA mandates that all manufacturers’ have to comply to use this standard for emission related control modules only. BMW has taken this standard to a higher level. BMW allows the professional technician to not only program emission related control modules, but also program modules for the complete vehicle systems.

What this means to the automotive community is that ProgRama Scan Tools will offer a factory-level tool (ability to program all modules, fault tracing and wiring diagrams). Other companies have sold J2534 tools, but have not been very successful. ProgRama Scan Tools has spent the last 6 months perfecting its J2534 Pass-Thru Programming capability to communicate with BMW’s website. We chose BMW first because of the complete capability they offer. ProgRama Scan Tools future plans for J2534 release will be Volvo, Mercedes, Toyota and other vehicle manufacturers.

The good news for the professional technician is that ProgRama has now made available an affordable alternative to the OEM manufacturer’s diagnostic tools. With manufacturer scan tools costing, in most cases, tens of thousands of dollars, ProgRama’s PC Retriever System delivers a wide range of manufacturer-specific data for European vehicles and OBD-II at only a fraction of the cost, saving the average repair shop owner thousands in tool costs. With renowned customer service, 2-year warranties and available payment plans, the PC Retriever System from ProgRama Scan Tools offers a competitive replacement to hand-held or manufacturer-designed diagnostic equipment.
