Power Stop Embraces Copper-Free Initiative

Power Stop, a Chicago-area provider of performance brake systems, says it is taking a proactive approach to the new legislative initiatives to reduce the use of copper and other environmentally harmful elements in its brake pads.

Power Stop, a Chicago-area provider of performance brake systems, says it is taking a proactive approach to the new legislative initiatives to reduce the use of copper and other environmentally harmful elements in its brake pads.

In 2010, both California and Washington passed legislation that will effectively ban the use of copper in brake pads by 2025. Similar bills are actively being proposed in New York, Oregon and Rhode Island.

Power Stop LLC says it has embraced its own copper-free initiative and is committed to supplying 100 percent copper-free brake pads far in advance of the defined timeline stated in California SB 346 and Washington SB 6557. The company says it currently offers performance proven friction materials that are 100 percent compliant with the Jan. 1, 2021, mandates set forth in SB 346 and SB 6557.

According to the company, the copper content in its products are as follows:
• Z16 Evolution Ceramic Brake Pads less than 5 percent
• Z17 Evolution Plus Ceramic Brake Pads w/Hardware less than 5 percent
• PM18 Posi-Mold Semi-Metallic Brake Pads Copper-Free
• Z26 Extreme Performance Copper-Free Ceramic Brake Pads Copper-Free
• Z36 Truck & Tow Copper-Free Ceramic Brake Pads Copper-Free
• Z37 Top Cop Copper-Free Ceramic Brake Pads Copper-Free

Running through July 1, 2024, the campaign aims to raise $65,000 through 1,000 donations of $65 each. This impactful effort highlights the industry's commitment to taking care of its own, the AACF said.  From sudden illness and death to natural disasters, the foundation has provided assistance to industry professionals and their families during their darkest hours. As AACF celebrates its 65th year of service, it remains steadfast in its mission to provide financial support and resources to those in the automotive aftermarket industry in need, the organization said. In honor of this milestone, AACF is calling upon automotive aftermarket industry professionals, as well as compassionate individuals eager to lend a helping hand, to join forces in raising $65,000. By making a symbolic donation of $65, supporters can contribute to a fund that offer vital assistance during a time of greatest need. "Over the past 65 years, AACF has remained unwavering in its commitment to supporting members of the automotive aftermarket community during their most challenging moments," said Joel Ayres, AACF executive director. "As we embark on this historic fundraising initiative, we are inspired by the generosity and compassion of our supporters. Together, we can make a profound difference in the lives of those facing adversity, demonstrating the industry's unwavering dedication to taking care of its own."
