Power Steering: To Flush Or Not To Flush?

Find out what swapping the fluid can do to the life of the power steering system.

When a repair is made on a power steering system, there’s a chance that metal shavings can enter the system. This can lead to premature failure of the rack and cause a costly comeback.

In addition to retaining contaminants, the working life of power steering fluid is only three to five years, and it is very rarely replaced when needed. By swapping the fluid, you’re helping to extend the life of the power steering system.

Types of Ball Joints

A ball joint is made up of a housing, ball stud, bearings, end cover and Belleville washer or spring. A Belleville washer is a conical-shaped spring designed to be loaded in the axial direction. The joint is attached to a control arm by pressing or riveting the joint into the arm.
