Monroe Billboard Campaign Drives Home Need for Regular Maintenance

Sponsored by Monroe Shocks and Struts, a brand of Tenneco Inc., the innovative billboard campaign encourages consumers to follow a regular vehicle maintenance schedule, a key element to catching and preventing potential problems with a vehicle's shocks and struts.

From coast to coast, consumers are getting the message: For a safer, more reliable ride, replace your vehicle’s shocks and struts every 50,000 miles.

Sponsored by Monroe Shocks and Struts, a brand of Tenneco Inc., the innovative billboard campaign encourages consumers to follow a regular vehicle maintenance schedule, a key element to catching and preventing potential problems with a vehicle’s shocks and struts.

The billboards, based on Monroe’s “Safety Triangle” consumer education concept, currently appear in more than 150 locales and are expected to generate more than 790,000 brand impressions.

The Safety Triangle is a system of interconnected components that enhance driving performance and safety through proper steering, stopping and stability characteristics. Components included in the Safety Triangle are tires, brakes, shocks, struts, and steering linkage and suspension parts.

Following the 50,000-mile guideline can help improve vehicle ride and handling and protect the integrity of other Safety Triangle parts. The presence of just one worn Safety Triangle component could jeopardize the driver’s ability to steer, stop and maintain stability under challenging driving conditions.

"With tools like the Safety Triangle, we can help consumers understand why 50,000 miles is a significant milestone for their vehicles," said Richard Alameddine, vice president of marketing and engineering of Tenneco’s North American Aftermarket. "This campaign has helped raise awareness about the role ride control parts play in a vehicle’s handling and performance and also encourages consumers to have their shocks and struts inspected regularly."

Monroe has launched an education initiative urging consumers to follow a 50,000-mile shock/strut replacement recommendation. Doing so improves the vehicle’s handling and performance, which often degrade over time, making the damage less recognizable for the driver.

In addition to delivering enhanced ride comfort, shock absorbers and struts help maintain consistent, firm traction by absorbing road-induced impacts and reducing vehicle pitch and roll. Worn shocks and struts can lead to degraded steering, stopping and stability performance under many driving situations.
