The Motorist Assurance Program (MAP) has announced the addition of three new publications to its program offering. The new publications include brochures titled “The MAP Process” and “Power Steering Systems,” along with a Uniform Inspection & Communication Standards (UICS) manual titled “Routine Inspection Reference Guide.” Each of the three new publications will be on display Nov. 4-8 at MAP’s booths at the AAPEX (booth 10015) and CARS (booth C8230) exhibitions in Las Vegas.

The MAP Process brochure focuses on the three cornerstones of the MAP process: Pledge to Customers, Standards of Service and Service Requirements and Suggestions.

Power Steering Systems Brochure is an overview of how a vehicle’s power steering system works. It discusses power steering fluid, manual vs. power steering and preventive maintenance for the system.

Routine Inspection Reference Guide was developed for shops that provide maintenance services as a part of their overall business model. It is a summary compiled from all seven MAP UICS publications related to routine maintenance of vehicle systems. Also included are suggested services for Chemical Engine Decarbonization, Contaminated Oil System Service, A/C System Flushing and In-Line Filter Usage, Brake Fluid Replacement, Battery Life, Ride Control and Power Steering Fluid Replacement.

"These new additions, along with the other MAP publications, are designed to help facilitate communication between service providers and consumers," said MAP President Barry Soltz. "MAP hopes these publications will be used when talking to consumers about suggested services, so motorists will recognize the importance of ‘preventive maintenance’ – and act before a component fails and becomes a ‘required’ service."

The three new publications, along with all UICS, are available in PDF format, and may be downloaded from the "Members Only" section of MAP’s website: www.motorist.org. (Member ID and passcode required to access the UICS online.) Non-AMRA/MAP members may order current UICS online.
