GAAS Scholarship Fund Announces Scholarship Recipients In Honor Of Barry Breslow

Global-Automotive-Aftermarket-Symposium-Logo-300x154The Global Automotive Aftermarket Symposium Scholarship Fund recently announced the five recipients of $2,000 Breslow Foundation scholarships, which are awarded to students in the automotive aftermarket and performance markets.

Recipients for the 2015 scholarships are:
• Ryan Henderson, Sussex, New Jersey, attending Pennsylvania State University, Mechanical Engineering
• Andrea Kuklenyik, Atlanta, Georgia, attending Georgia Institute of Technology, Mechanical Engineering
• Janice Poon, Elk Grove, California, attending Yale University, Economics and Global Affairs
• Katherine Ramage, Ledgewood, New Jersey, attending Pennsylvania State University, Mechanical Engineering
• Reiley Schraeger, Mukilteo, Washington, attending California Polytechnic State University, Mechanical Engineering

The scholarships honor the late Barry Breslow, who was an active participant in the automotive aftermarket for many years. Breslow, who passed away in December 2005, was one of the original owners of Autospecialty Inc. and a former chairman of the Auto International Association (AIA), now a segment within the Auto Care Association. He also was a member of the AIA Hall of Fame and a past recipient of the AIA Person of the Year.

“Our family is pleased to honor Barry’s memory by supporting the educational goals of future aftermarket leaders,” said Wendy Breslow, widow of Barry Breslow. “By aiding these students, we are ensuring that Barry’s legacy will live on.”

“We started the Breslow scholarships to encourage intelligent, deserving young people to choose careers in the automotive aftermarket,” said Eric Breslow, Breslow’s son. “We feel that this year’s recipients will make a positive impact on our industry with fresh ideas and enthusiasm,” he added.

“Through their partnership with the GAAS scholarship fund, Wendy and Eric have continued Barry’s commitment to education,” said Pete Kornafel, chairman of the GAAS Scholarship Selection Committee. “The Breslow scholarships have enabled us to help even more students pursue their dream of starting a successful career in the automotive aftermarket.”

The Breslow scholarships are available to applicants attending four-year colleges or universities and majoring in engineering or business. The funds will be awarded to students with demonstrated financial need who are planning to pursue careers in either the traditional automotive aftermarket or the automotive performance market. All GAAS applicants who meet these preferred criteria will automatically be eligible to be considered for these scholarships.

Additional scholarship funding comes from industry contributions provided by individuals, companies and foundations. Contributions can be made to the GAAS Scholarship Fund, c/o Susan Medick at the Auto Care Association, at 301-654-6664, or [email protected].
