Dodge Tech Tip: Hard or No Start During Cool Weather

Some owners of Dodge Caravans may complain of hard or no start during cool weather, with hard fault code 22 in memory (non-magnum engines). This condition can be caused by defective coolant temperature sensor (CTS) wiring connections.

• 1988-’93 Caravan 2.5L, 3.0L; and
• 1990-’93 Caravan 3.3L.

Symptom: Hard or no start during cool weather, with hard fault code 22 in memory (non-magnum engines).

Problem: Defective coolant temperature sensor (CTS) wiring connections.

Test & Fix: The CTS sensor resistance should be 7,000-13,000 ohms at 70° F. If it isn’t, replace the sensor. If the sensor values are OK, proceed with the wiring repair by installing a new pigtail connector #4414901 and heat-shrink tubing #4419644.

According to a recent survey of shop owners, less than a third of shops work on EVs, due to concerns about battery packs, inverters or other daunting technology. The good news is, though, tomorrow’s electric and hybrid vehicles still offer substantial service opportunities under the car.

Just as with conventional internal combustion engine or ICE vehicles, EVs are subject to the same traffic conditions, potholes, curbs and corrosive environments that can accelerate wear and tear on steering and suspension components. But there are also several other factors with EVs that can make life harder for the suspension.
