The Car Care Council Women’s Board is pleased to announce that Jenalyn Miller of Ann Arbor, MI, is the recipient of the 2007 Women’s Board $2,500 post-secondary scholarship. Miller will be recognized during the Women’s Board reception on Tuesday, Oct. 30, at the Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo (AAPEX) in Las Vegas, NV.

Miller attends Washtenaw Community College, where she majors in automation technology. She is also involved in an after-school tutoring program and works a part-time job, while maintaining a 3.9 grade point average. In her free time, Miller’s favorite hobby is rock climbing. Her goal is to open her own shop, where she would employ other women and offer regular classes on vehicle maintenance to the public.

Miller believes that the Women’s Board scholarship is important because it encourages and empowers women.

“I feel that being a successful female automotive technician will help to continue to show younger generations of women that they can and should pursue whatever career path they enjoy,” Miller said.

In addition to Miller, the Women’s Board is awarding a $1,500 post-secondary scholarship to Katy House of Spokane, WA.

Scholarship applications were available to women who have completed at least one year in an ASE-certified, post-secondary automobile technology program and plan on entering the automotive field upon graduation.

The comprehensive Women’s Board program also offers scholarships to high school students who plan on pursuing a career in the automotive field upon graduation. This year, the Women’s Board is presenting $1,000 scholarships to Ana Broyles of Carbondale, CO; Amanda Krimmel of Wyandotte, MI; and Brittany Miller of Monaca, PA.

“Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, we were able to expand the program to provide more scholarships than ever before,” said Susan Medick, scholarship committee chair. “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to help five talented women pursue their dreams of completing their education to obtain positions in the automotive industry.”

The Women’s Board is comprised of professional women and men, including motor sports figures, service shop owners, technicians, service writers, association and company executives and consultants. Members are dedicated to informing female audiences about proper vehicle maintenance and safety, and encouraging young people to investigate the variety automotive career opportunities available to them.
