Arizona Transmission Shop Forced to Close

Transplant Plus Transmissions in Tempe, AZ, has been ordered to shut down and, according to the article, the owner, Robert Brady, is not allowed to own or manage an auto repair business for 10 years. A year ago, the Arizona Attorney General's office had sued the business for consumer fraud. The shop's most resent problems are the result of failing to respond to complaints and threatening to repossess cars if the owners didn't pay their repair bills.

Tempe transmission shop ordered to shut down

By Robert Anglen and Matthew Casey

A Tempe transmission shop was ordered to cease operations this week, a year after the Arizona Attorney General’s Office sued it for consumer fraud.

Transplant Plus Transmissions must stop accepting new work and has less than 60 days to finish any ongoing work, return vehicles to owners and shut its doors for good, a judge ruled this month.

The court found that Transplant owners violated terms of a 2011 settlement with the attorney general’s office by failing to respond to complaints within two weeks, not registering its trade name and by threatening to repossess cars if owners didn’t pay for service.

Transplant owner Robert Brady could not be reached for comment. Phone calls to Transplant went unanswered, and the company’s website was down.

Workers at the business on Elliot Road said Friday that they could not comment on the case, other than to say the shop was closing.

Brady is prohibited from owning or operating a transmission shop in the state again. He cannot own or manage an auto-repair business for 10 years.
