Furr Auto Service is not what you’d call camera ready, unless you’re looking for a picture of an old-time garage that Norman Rockwell might take.
Jack Furr has budgeted no money on repainting, refurbishing or refurnishing his small, 2,500-square-foot garage at 2009 Portage St. And he has spent less time worrying about it.
So the well-worn wood of various types that have been used to section off interior spaces since the garage was built in 1922 may be there until the structure hits the century mark, along with the thrift-store furnishings, 15-year-old pictures of Furr’s grandchildren, and a plethora of ancient and irreverent postings. They include “Hippies use side door,” “Beware of attack mechanic,” “We fix $39.95 tune-ups and 10-minute oil changes” and
“Unattended children will be given an espresso and a free puppy.”
